Music has the power to change your mood—motivating you when you’re down, inspiring you when you’re lazy. That can help a lot when you want to design or make something. For this reason, I’ve compiled 12 Spotify playlists for creative work.

Though music can also improve your creativity, you want something that’s not distracting. What’s distracting varies with every person, but if you’re like me, music with a lot of lyrics falls in that criteria. That’s because I tend to focus on the lyrics and sometimes start singing the song, which takes my mind off my creative activity.

This is why I’ve chosen mostly lyric-free, calm playlists on Spotify (with songs that are also very creative from the titles and artworks to the melodies and beats) to helpfully inspire and motivate you on your endeavors.

Upbeat, modern Spotify playlists for creative work

These are mostly lo-fi music that you can play while designing, writing, and other creative work.

  1. Sunny Beats by Spotify

This is an upbeat playlist that makes me feel like I’m on a beach bar somewhere. Definitely play this for an instant mood boost while working on your passion projects.

2. Youtuber Background Music by michaelscottkahans

Apparently, from the title of the playlist itself, most of these songs are used as Youtuber background music. Since I’m not always on Youtube, none of these songs ring any bells for me. Which is just how I like it when I’m creating. My favorite songs in this playlist are Dreams by Joakim Karud and long ago. by halberd.

3. Golden Hour by Spotify

I just recently discovered this gem. Based on the description, these are the songs you want to listen to at the “golden hour”. Golden hour here most probably means that period of daytime shortly after sunrise or before sunset, which is a photographer’s favorite hour for taking photos.

True to its title, this is certainly a perfect Spotify playlist for creative work in the afternoon. Here we are again by Joey Pecoraro, Feel It Still (Medasin Remix) by Portugal. The Man, Medasin, and Tell Me by NEIL FRANCES, The Undercover Dream Lovers are some of the must-listen-tos in this playlist.

5. Coffee Shop Vibes by Steezyasfuck

If working in a coffee shop stimulates your brain, then this Spotify playlist might get your creative juices flowing. All songs meld delightfully together and I find myself playing this a lot on weekends. One song that stands out for me is Breathe by Télépopmusik.

From the title of the playlist, this is one to play when you’re feeling kinda down and need some upbeat music to lift your mood and make you feel good. After a few songs, you’re ready to get to work! Try listening to Baileys by isaintjames which has a bit of a nostalgic feel.

7. Impulso Creativo by Spotify

This is a new addition to my “creativity playlist suite”, and I still haven’t listened to all songs. However, I can tell from the first few tracks I’ve heard that this has the same upbeat and modern tempos as the previous Spotify playlists for creative work above.

Calm, instrumental Spotify playlists for creative work

If you prefer piano instrumentals and classical type of music, you’ll enjoy the playlists below! Play them on speaker for your whole house to hear (hopefully your roommates or family will like them as well!).

This is another playlist that I discovered recently. Though all tracks are definitely very calming, there are some that are a bit heavy. If you don’t like a song, feel free to just skip!

10. Maplestory BGM by Ian Goh

If you want some upbeat music that’s not lo-fi, listen to this playlist. It’s probably one of the playlists I repeat the most. If you played the Maplestory game, you might get sidetracked. If you didn’t, then you can simply enjoy the pleasant piano tracks with no association to anything that might distract you.
